Elec-Tec end season with a draw

ELEC-TEC 3

BARRY FC 3

IN THE final two games of last season, Elec-Tec lost 2-0 to Master Mariner and saw Barry FC leap-frog them after achieving the same score line.

Tec saw off Master Mariner last week despite being without the club's top 3 goal scorers.

Paintball' Patty was back this week, but long- term injury victim Danny Crawley was still out, and Action Man McKenzie was out of action!

Tec were also without Turbo' Goodrich with a pulled hamstring, Butch' with 40-plus burn-out and Will Trott, who had completed his move to London.

There would be no leapfrogging this season as recent results had gone against Barry FC. Some believed Barry had the Indian sign over Elec-Tec this season having beaten them twice despite being largely out-played.

The early exchanges, however, pointed to an Elec-Tec victory. Ten minutes of intermittent pressure culminated in a well-taken John Beer goal. When Haggard sent Titch clear, Beer's clever header completed the move.

It was almost 20 minutes before Barry FC managed a shot at goal. Toby West saved at full length. Next minute brought an unexpected equaliser. A free-kick lofted over the defensive wall found three Barry players clear of the defence. Two runners were there legally, but scorer Lewis Stait had been loitering with intent', escaping the notice of the referee as players milled around.

Five minutes later, Stait took a mysteriously awarded free kick himself and beat the keeper. Tec were even more aggrieved and came back strongly. Half chances were created, with Neil Haggard architect-in-chief. Half time arrived however, with neither keeper unduly worried.

As the second half began, a massive clearance from keeper Toby West seemed destined for the top corner of the Barry goal. His opposite number just managed to scramble it clear.

Seconds later, West turned a low shot round the post. The main action was, however, at the Barry end. Midfielder Tony Jenkins was playing the game of his life while Titch Lloyd rivalled him for the MOTM award.

The equaliser was on the cards and duly arrived via goal-ace Pat Curran. In the last minute of normal time, sub James Howe's accurate free kick found Bobby Brown, who fired home the winner from close in. Tec had finally beaten one of their bogey teams.

Let's ignore the soft penalty awarded in the 93rd minute. This was the 5th penalty awarded in the final five minutes of games this season. One had been clear cut, one disputed, one mysterious and another one came when a Bluebirds player had conned the referee. This last one was a lost property' penalty: Barry FC didn't even claim it. Jonathan Black almost apologetically knocked it in to take the total points thus lost up to 8.

Season over, it's time to look forward to the big day coming up for the other Bluebirds. Will Campbell give them a penalty?
