Busy Bank Holiday for Lifeboat
BARRY Dock Lifeboat was called out three times over last week's bank holiday weekend.
The boat was called to assist the Penarth lifeboat on Saturday to rescue a jet ski rider, who was seen to be in difficulty. It is believed that the man had left a group of riders, against their advice, to ride alone.
The boat was put to use again to take three of the RNLI's crew members to Flatholm Island to help a child who had fallen.
The child was taken to hospital in a helicopter, and the child's parents were taken to Barry by the lifeboat.
The third incident involved children drifting away from the beach.
Although the lifeboat was launched, the children managed to get back to the beach.
A spokesperson for the Barry Dock RNLI said: "A timely reminder is needed at this time for those who use inflatable craft.
"Be aware of your position, never go out of your depth, never go out in windy conditions, always have an adult supervising and always speak to the Lifeguards or call HM Coastguard if you are in doubt."
