Running up a fortune for Ty Hafan!

THE Ty Hafan Barry Waterfront 5k run held on Sunday has raised around £20,000 for the charity!

More than 350 runners turned out for the event, with some braving the hot weather in fancy dress.

Memorable costumes included Darth Vader, Yoda, a robber and Dewi Dragon.

Ty Hafan Events Fundraiser Alan Drury said: "We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part on Sunday, in the heat of the sun, to help raise vital funding for Ty Hafan.

"We would also like to express our sincere thanks to local residents for their support."

At an awards ceremony held at Barry Leisure centre, the winners were awarded certificates - although there is one prize left to give to the person who raised the most money.

Until the sponsorship money is collected, it is not sure who that person is, or how much exactly has been raised altogether, but the sponsor forms indicate that around £20,000 is set to be raised from the race.

Alan added: "We would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped on the day, plus the police, St John Ambulance, The Highways Department, and our Sponsors ABP, The Waterfront Barry, Npower, and Brecon Carreg for providing the water for this event."
