RESIDENTS of the Vale were asked to keep their windows shut as fire crews tackled a blaze at a log yard in the county last night.

Fire crews tackled the fire for over six hours at Revival Products near Cowbridge.

South Wales Police posted on X, formally Twitter, at 1.45am that the B4270 between The Cross Inn Pub and the junction of Llantwit Major would be closed for some time.

At 2.10am police advised residents within a half mile radius of the incident to keep their windows and doors closed.

At 7.30am, Forest Products, a company in a unit next door to the blaze, posted on their Facebook page: “Due to a fire in the unit next to our Cowbridge branch, we regret to inform you that Cowbridge depot will be closed until 1pm.

"The Fire Service will be utilizing our yard to extinguish the fire.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding during this time. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Fire services now say they have dealt with the blaze and the incident has been handed over to police for investigation.

The B4270, which was initially affected, has now been reopened.

As yet there is no report of any injuries.

A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue said: “At approximately 12.05am on Friday, April 26, SWFRS was called to an incident at Revival Products in Cowbridge whereby a commercial building was fully alight.

“Firefighters tackled the blaze using an aerial ladder platform, one hose reel jet, one main jet, and two water bowsers.

“The incident has now been handed over to the police and the area has been cordoned off.

“A stop message received at 6.33am.”

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “We were called on Friday April 26, just after 12.00am along with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service with a report of a fire at a Crossway, Llantwit Major Road.

“Officers attended the scene, and the road was closed for several hours, but is now open.

“Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. "
